It’s been one year since we launched the “One Voice, One Direction” program – a transformative project embodying our continued collaboration between the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology (Narodowy Instytut Onkologii im. Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie – Państwowy Instytut Badawczy) and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCC®). Our main objective is to adapt the NCCN’s cancer diagnostic and treatment guidelines to the healthcare realities of Poland.
This initiative represents a paradigm shift in guideline development, fostering cooperation between patients and clinicians. Polish oncologists are leveraging the insights and standards set by the NCCN and partners in the United States. The project is open, with patient organizations across various oncology disciplines invited to participate, signifying an inclusive approach to healthcare solutions.
The NCCN guidelines are globally acclaimed for their detailed diagnostic and therapeutic directions, constantly updated to ensure alignment with the latest scientific evidence and expert consensus. The unique aspect of this project is the incorporation of patient groups into the process. “These guidelines, based on strong scientific evidence and compliant with the legal and financial realities of a given country, should be accessible, adaptable, and disseminated to doctors, patients and the wider medical personnel,” states Prof. Maciej Krzakowski, national consultant in the field of clinical oncology.
We are excited to continue this project with renowned specialists in oncology. We aim to incorporate future guidelines for each cancer group and fostering a partnership that encourages patients and clinicians involvement.
