On February 1st was held the conference ‘Oncology – it connotes well’ to celebrate World Cancer Day. It underlined the cooperation between doctors from various medical and peripheral medical specialties. The president of the Polish Society of Oncologists, prof. dr. hab. n. med. Piotr Rutkowski has said that this cooperation is essential for the patient to have the highest chance to recover and return to normal life.
The conference aimed to indicate the development of oncology, especially proceeding with new standards of treatment, so-called combination treatment, and achieving patients personalized medical care in the future. However, the development wasn’t the only objective, at the conference professors shared their knowledge about current problems that should be considered next. Furthermore, postulates for the year 2023 were discussed, it’s clear that from the medical side, the objectives were met however, the greatest concern is a lack of people’s awareness and participation. People are unaware of easy-accessed prevention programs (https://lnkd.in/eQC5pFTU) which include screening programs, for lung cancer, or other conditions, thus leading to the rarity of routine tests.
Lastly, a new director of the Narodowy Instytut Onkologii im. Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie – Państwowy Instytut Badawczy in Warsaw, prof. Beata Jagielska spoke about the formation of the National Oncology Portal: the prospects are promising to implement it shortly. She significantly explained that it’s essential to remember, while implementing oncology prevention activities, that there exist regions that struggle with connecting with or commuting to the nearest oncological institution. The keyword for prof. Jagielska is cooperation, especially multispecialty, governmental, ministerial, and communication cooperation that can lead to patients’ empowerment and involvement in taking care of their health.
