AFI Supports ECMO in WielkoPolska meeting

On November 21, 2016 a conference entitled ECMO for Wielkopolska was held in Poznan. ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) is a type of cardiopulmonary bypass used for patients who are difficult to oxygenate; have poor cardiac function; have severe hypothermia and several other medical conditions. The group in Poland was the first in the world to conduct a simulation using ECMO to prepare for organ transplantation. Since the simulations the hospital has conducted 9 transplants. The purpose of the conference is to present data and discuss opportunities for regional implementation of this technology to improve medical care in the region.
