AFI support Polish Government visit to US April 23rd- 27th 2018

AFI supported a major visit to the US by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education Jaroslaw Gowin during the period of April 23-26. His delegation included Minister of Health Lukasz Szumowski, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Piotr Dardzinski and Speaker of Parliament Adam Bielan.

The primary purpose of this visit was the signing of the renewed US-Poland Science and Technology Agreement. Meetings also addressed the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding on health care that will be signed soon, and the growing relationship between Poland and Virginia.

On April 23, Poland’s Minister of Health Lukasz Szumowski visited the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). His visit with the Director of NIH included discussion of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) being developed with the US Department of Health and Human Services by Poland’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Following that meeting, Prof Szumowski met with senior researchers from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to discuss cooperation on cancer research.

AFI has supported the preparations of the MOU, and helped organise this second meeting which was attended by the president of AFI’s Supervisory Board.
