In 2018, the Virginia State Legislature officially recognized this day as a day of remembrance for General Andrzej (Tadeusz Bonawentura) Kościuszko.

On the 202nd anniversary of Gen. Kościuszko’s death, we remember his role in the Revolutionary War as architect and engineer in George Washington’s Continental Army. He was instrumental to the American victory at Saratoga, the turning point of the Revolution.

Kościuszko was close friends with Thomas Jefferson and asked Jefferson to use his American estate to buy the freedom for enslaved people.

Kościuszko’s commitment to freedom and human rights is unmistakable and we are pleased to honor his legacy as a Polish and American hero.
